The CC CapPack is a valuable accessory for all brushless motor applications, providing a subtle boost to overcome voltage ripples caused by hard acceleration or lengthy battery wires. These ripples can strain an ESC, but the CC CapPack mitigates the load on the controller's built-in capacitors. With a combination of four 220µF, 50V capacitors, the CapPack totals 880µF.
Helicopters:
For 500 class and larger heli applications, where Y harnesses and long wires can lead to voltage loss and demanding collective pulls, the CC CapPack is highly recommended. It ensures optimal performance even for powerful batteries.
Surface Vehicles:
RC cars and trucks impose significant strain on brushless power systems due to their high torque demands. When transitioning from 0 to 100% throttle, the load on controllers and batteries is immense. Incorporating the CC CapPack into your system helps it power through these intense situations.
Fixed-Wing Aircraft:
As electric powered aircraft grow in size, the distance between the battery pack and ESC may exceed the length of pre-installed wires. The addition of wire increases inductance, potentially raising ripple voltage. By implementing the CC CapPack, you effectively counteract the ripple caused by adding up to 8 inches of wire length to the battery.
Note: All Castle controllers with data logging capabilities can report the encountered ripple voltage during operation. It is advisable to keep ripple voltage peaks below 10% of the total pack voltage. The lower the ripple voltage, the better. If an application exhibits more than 10% ripple voltage under peak loads, consider using batteries with higher discharge (C Rating), shorter wires, higher current connectors, improved gearing, or reducing the load.
Multiple CapPacks can be employed in an application, and it is recommended to install them as close to the ESC as possible to maximize their effectiveness.
